Two Policemen Confirmed Dead in Attack on Adani Police Station

  At least two policemen were killed today by unidentified gunmen who attacked Adani Police Divisional headquarters in Enugu State. Mr Hassan Yahaya, the Commander, Nsukka Area Command, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and said he was already in Adani to see things for himself. “Yes, there was an attack on Adani police division early Wednesday morning. “I am there now to see things for myself, assess level of destruction and know casualties,” he said. A source from the area who pleaded anonymity told NAN in Nsukka on Wednesday that two police officers were killed and some others injured. Police Nab Four Kidnappers in Adamawa, Recovers Cash, Guns

  The Adamawa Police Command has apprehended four suspected kidnappers living in Garwayel Village of Hong Local Government Area of the state. The command’s spokesman, Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Yola. He said that the suspects, sometime in March, kidnapped Alhaji Yahaya Buba, Alhaji Sure and Alhaji Muhammed Bello, all of Konto Village, Gombi Local Government Area of the state. He added that on April 9 and 11, the police received a complaint from “a good Samaritan” who had been getting threat letters from unknown fellows. He said that the hoodlums had asked the complainant to pay N1 million ransom for each of the abducted persons or risk being kidnapped too. Gunmen Abduct Students of Greenfield University in Kaduna

  Scores of students have been kidnapped after unidentified gunmen attacked the Greenfield University along the Kaduna–Abuja Highway. Multiple reports said the students were abducted from the private university on Tuesday evening. Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, has confirmed the abduction. The gunmen stormed the private university, located in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State and took the students after sporadic shootings. The school is the first private university to be established in the state. And it has turned out to be the second tertiary institution to be attacked by the terrorists, also called bandits. At least 25 students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanization in Kaduna are still in captivity, following their kidnap by the terrorists on 11 March. COVID-19: Nigeria records 106 new infections, total now 162,997

  The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has recorded 106 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 162,997. The NCDC disclosed this on its official Twitter handle on Thursday. The country’s daily new cases continue to follow a downward trajectory, from an all-time high of 2,314 on Jan. 22, the country’s daily new positive cases came down to 48, as of March 29. NCDC stated that the country has tested 1,767,694 people since the first confirmed case relating to the COVID-19 pandemic was announced on Feb. 27, 2020. It also reported one additional coronavirus-related death in the last 24 hours, which brought the death toll now to 2,058. “Today’s death is from a backlog of data from Rivers,” it noted. The agency said that the 106 new cases were reported from 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). It said that Lagos State recorded the highest number of cases with 33 which brought the total number of infections in Lagos State to 57...

Fake lawyer Azeez Agboola arrested in court

  A fake lawyer, identified as Azeez Agboola, was arrested in court at Agbara, Ogun state Wednesday, right inside the courtroom The 50 year-old was arrested while appearing as a counsel before Chief Magistrate B. I. Ilo, at the Chief Magistrate Court in the industrial town. Agboola was arrested after the presiding judge was suspicious of his manner of presentation in the court. The judge invited the police to arrest him to authenticate his claim of being a lawyer, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said. “Upon his arrest, the suspect was personally interrogated by the DPO of Agbara Division, SP Dahiru Saleh. ‘He confessed that though he read law in the university, he has not been called to Bar since he has not passed the law school examination.” Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun has ordered that the suspect be charged to court as soon as possible.

  A former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Professor of Econometrics, Charles Soludo, Thursday narrated how gunmen, at a political gathering in his home state in Anambra State, attacked him and killed three policemen attached to him on Thursday. Soludo, a governorship aspirant in the November 6 race under the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance, was at a meeting with youths at Isuofia community when the gunmen struck. Featuring last night on Channels Television’s Programme, Politics Today, Soludo described the incident as barbaric, horrible and senseless. Air Force reveals names of pilots in missing Alpha jet

  The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has revealed that Flight Lieutenants John Abolarinwa and  Ebiakpo Chapele were the two pilots on its Alpha Jet aircraft (NAF475) that went missing during operation against Boko Haram in Borno State last Wednesday. Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information of Air Force who revealed the names of the pilot in a statement in Abuja on Friday morning however said contrary to earlier report, the missing jet has not been found. Earlier  report  had indicated that the missing Alpha jet was found to have crashed at Abba-Jille in Konduga,  approx 30Kms outskirt of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. But the Air Force in the statement released on Friday morning said extensive search for the jet believed to have crashed is still going on.   The police in Benue State have killed one armed robbery suspect in a gun duel along Makurdi-Lafia highway of the state. The spokesperson of the command, DSP Catherine Anene, said that the development followed reports about regrouping of armed robbers and attacks on Makurdi-Lafia road. Bandits Invade Military Camp In Niger, Kill Soldiers

  Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed soldiers in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. The gunmen reportedly abducted over 10 persons, stole seven motorcycles and burnt down military vehicles in attacks which happened on Wednesday and in the early hours of Thursday. The communities attacked by the bandits are Allawa, Manta, Gurmana, Bassa and Kokki in Shiroro council. According to a report by Daily Trust, the bandits stormed the camp of the Joint Security Task Force comprising of the Army, Police, Civil Defence and Vigilantes at Allawa and opened fire on them. An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was also killed in the attack while many security personnel sustained injuries.   Actionaid Nigeria and Centre for Information Technology and Development(CITAD)  have  called on media practitioners  in Nigeria to rise to the challenge of sustaining awareness on FOI issues with a view to ensuring that its implementation remains at the front burner of state and none state actors regarding good governance. The organisations working to improve the lives of the poor and neglected in hard-to reach communities made the call at a capacity building for 40 representatives of 16 communities in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act. The essence of the training was to inform, educate and embolden the neglected communities to engage with the government by asking questions on issues affecting them, especially issues pertaining to social amenities and governance generally, in their constituencies.
