Police Kill ‘Robber’ In Gun Battle

 The police in Benue State have killed one armed robbery suspect in a gun duel along Makurdi-Lafia highway of the state.

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Catherine Anene, said that the development followed reports about regrouping of armed robbers and attacks on Makurdi-Lafia road.

She said more police teams were deployed to the route for routine patrols during which the armed robbery suspect fell to the superior power of the command’s operatives.



“On 31st March 2021, at about 12:10am, a team of police officers on patrol encountered armed robbers in military and police uniforms robbing commuters of their belongings.

“On sighting the police, the robbers engaged the police in a gun battle but were overpowered by police response and repelled to a nearby bush.

“One of the robbers sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital where he was confirmed dead. Corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital morgue while investigation is still in progress,” Anene said.
